building creative expression

“but I’m not artistic…”

What does ‘art’ mean to you?

Art is how we contribute to society. It becomes the dialogue that shapes our experiences, with everyone offering something uniquely special about them. We all have our strengths, but creativity is a fundamental human capacity that can be nurtured and developed. Using exercises inspired by the entertainment industry, this class will empower students to find confidence in their own expression, translating to greater artistic excellence in all facets of life.

creative therapy to boost self esteem

Studies show that approximately one third to one half of youth experience low self-esteem, and youth today face unique social pressures such as increased social media use (Jiotsa et al., 2021).

Emotional awareness is a powerful tool for growth.

Enhancing self-esteem in adolescence is related to more positive mental, physical, and social outcomes in adulthood. (Arsandaux et al., 2021).

confiDANCE teaches skills to rewire negative belief systems by using creative expression and therapeutic practice to encourage a positive sense of self.

Creative movement has been shown to enhance both general and specific aspects of self-esteem among youth (Theodorakou & Zervas, 2003).

Emily Collins, Registered Provisional Psychologist

Best friends who grew up in the dance studio together, Emily pursued a career in psychology while Anisha studied the arts. This program is made in honour of their younger selves.

Emily’s work as a therapist has expanded her teachings, focused on helping her clients learn the valuable life skills needed to maintain a healthy sense of self. Her studies focused on the value of adopting these behaviours in adolesence to help prevent poor mental health in adulthood.
